27 Feb —  Our VMC Library Discussion Group topic this month will be “The French & Indian War”. The Presenter will be our own Bill Wilkening. The presentation will be held in the VMC library on February 27th from 1800 to 1930. French and British “drinks” and snacks will be served!

FEBRUARY 2024

24 Feb — JROTC Squad and Platoon Drill Meet  0700-1230 with 10-12 Schools Expected and more than 150 cadets in the Veterans Memorial Park on MI.  Supported by MOAA Cape Canaveral Chapter Good Deeds Foundation (all trophies) and the VMC.

24 Feb —  Heroes Fest 1100-1600 at Space Coast Harley Davidson Food trucks, Live Music, games, giveaways, sponsorships during a Family Fun Day.  Put on by Let the Heroes Know  to support veterans and families in distress.  Call 772-277-2919 or contact lettheheroesknow@gmail.com.  to register or get more information.

MARCH 2024

02 Mar — Back Brevard Heroes Car Show Fundraiser at Veterans Memorial Park 1000-1500.  Plenty of music and food trucks with prizes awarded and raffles.  Major fund raiser for Back Brevard Heroes Celebration in May at the VMC. 

09 Mar—  JROTC District Drill Meet with all disciplines 0700-1300 with 10-12 Schools Expected and more than 150 cadets in the Veterans Memorial Park on MI.  Supported by MOAA Cape Canaveral Chapter Good Deeds Foundation (all trophies) and the VMC. 

16 Mar —  Ceremony to Remember the Last Naval Battle of the American Revolutionary War fought off the Coast of Cape Canaveral in 1783.  1000-1200 at the VMC Plaza Area with food and drinks and a parade of colors and wreaths with many in colonial attire. Put on by the Sons of the American Revolution Brevard Chapter along with the DAR and VMC.  Contact Donn Weaver 757-871-6576 for more information. 

23 Mar – Veteran’s Children’s Easter Party in the VMC Park.  All children of Veterans are welcome but please RSVP to Diane at (607) 382-3405.

23 Mar —  024 Vietnam Welcome Home Commemoration Ceremony at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims.  1000-1100 with Reading of the names of those who served  in Vietnam now resting at CCNC following. Open to the public.  Including pinning and Honor Guard with keynote speaker Carl Miller, Vietnam Veteran and Commander of the Brevard Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter. 

23 Mar — Be The One 5K Run and Walk VMC Park 0700 – 1030.  Sponsored by American Legion Post 344 with half the proceeds going to preventing veteran and first responder suicides.  T-shirts included with $20 registration fee with active duty, veterans, first responders invited.  Contact post344adjutant@gmail.com. or call 321-350-6163 to sign up or for questions.

04 Jul — Annual BCSO and VMC Merritt Island Independence Day Parade.  1000-1200 with details in May.  Start at Merritt Island HS and finish at Veterans Memorial Center with food and festivities. 

 

AUGUST 2024

04 Aug — Annual Purple Heart Recognition Ceremony at the VMC Gray Hall 1400-1600 sponsored by Chapter 453 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  Special recognition of 10 PH recipients and ceremony to tell their stories and recognize their sacrifices.  Contact Donn Weaver, 757-871-6576 for more information.

24 Aug — Seminar for High School Soph’s, Juniors and Seniors on Military Academy, ROTC Scholarships and other military paths to education and leadership.  VMC Gray Hall, Foyer and Library 1300- 1700.  Details in June.
