29 Oct: Brevard Parks and Rec is sponsoring a Ground Breaking Ceremony at 1000 hours to celebrate the upcoming $8.2M 3-phase VMC Memorial Park updates with Amphitheatre, irrigation, planting, etc..  All are welcome to attend.

11 Nov:  At VMC Plaza, 0930 – 1100.  Veterans Pride in America Theme with new program plans and celebration of what it means to be a veteran.  Music, tables and info from many veteran organizations and free Museum.  There will be many other Veterans Day Events in Brevard as well.  Details soon.

29 Oct —  VMC Library Discussions Series, The Land of Disenchantment:  The Civil War in New Mexico. 1800 1930.  Presented by Hank Rhodes off the VMC Library Staff.  Drinks and Snacks served. 

31 Oct — BCSO Shred Event in VMC Park 0900-1030.  BSCO conducts monthly shred services at various locations and will release their 2024 schedule in January.  

31 Oct —  Second Annual Trunk or Treat Halloween Party VMC Park 1500-1800.  Sponsored by the BVMC and Their Voice of Hope for children of veterans and their families.  Lots of games, food and kids fun.  For more information to participate or donate contact dwalshusa@gmail.com or call 321-426-6736. 

 

NOVEMBER 2024

02 Nov  — JROTC Raider Challenge DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP Invitational Competition at the Veterans Memorial Center Park (0630-1300).  Support hundreds of JROTC cadets engaging in five grueling events in 10 person male, female and mixed teams.    

03 Nov – Free Open House at the American Muscle Car Museum for Veterans, Active Duty and their families. 1300-1400/  The 501(c)3 museum includes over 450 vehicles in a 90,000 sq ft vehicle display area, an 18,000 sq ft showroom, and an adjacent 24,000 sq ft maintenance and restoration facility for the collection. It is not open to the public but hosts numerous non-profit fundraisers, community appreciation events, car-related activities, and educational tours. 3500 Sarno Road Melbourne, FL 32904, www.AmericanMuscleCarMuseum.com

09 Nov —  St Francis Reflections Lifestage CareVeterans Day 5K at VMC Park.  0800-1030   More details in Oct.

09 Nov —  First Annual City of Cape Canaveral Veterans Day Parade  0930-1100 starting at City Hall with plenty of entrants and food and drinks at VFW Post 10131 of Cape Canaveral.  Details in October. 

09-10 Nov—  Veterans Open House 2024 at Valiant Air Command War Birds Museum at TICO Airport, Titusville 1000-1700  both days.  Veterans get in free with lots of food, special events and more.  Check the War Bird Museum web site for more information.  

10 Nov —  NVHS’s Seventh Annual Homestretch 5K for At-Risk and Homeless Vets.  For details and to register see Latest Events and Updates on:  nvhs.org

12 Nov – Tribute to Veterans (Concert, Fundraiser, Benefit), 1900-2100 (doors open at 1800). Music by Steve Kirchner Joy Band and silent auction. Sponsored by Unity Church of Merritt Island to benefit the BVMC, American Legion, Wreaths Across America and the Space Coast Honor Flight.  Suggested donation is $10 and also accepts non-perishable food and new or gently used clothing.  Contact Chris Boyle, 321-453-4253, or Ailene Picheco, 321-652-0680.

16 Nov —  Annual MOAACC Good Deeds Foundation Golf Tournament Fundraiser at the Indian River  Colony Club 0800-1300.  Save the date.  Looking for sponsors and golfers.  Contact Donn Weaver, 757-871-6576.  Sign up at moaacc.org web site. 

16 Nov —  Annual Dinner and Fund Raiser by the Support Committee of the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery (SC/CCNC) 1730- 2000 at American Legion Post 1, US 1 in Titusville.  50/50 raffles, silent auction, Music by Dave Johnson, great food and more all to support the SC/CCNC during the year.  They organize ceremonies and events at CCNC; support the CCNC Director and her team, as well as through the Cape Canaveral Ladies, who make sure no veteran is ever buried alone.  Reservations required by 01 Nov to Priscilla Southworth  (saavik31324@yahoo.com. ). Dinner costs $20 with checks made out to SC/CCNC. Priscilla has all details.  

17 Nov —  Bowling for Heroes Charity event by Heroes United   to Heal Foundation at Shore Lanes 600 N. Courtenay , Merritt Island, FL.  1400-1600.  Five man team entry fee is $70 for each lane with grand prizes available in Juniors (under 21).Corporate/Private Business, Hero (Vets and First Responders) categories.  Register your team by email:  admin@hu2h.org. The event is aimed at “Striking Out” the stigma of PTSD and vet/first responder suicide.    

25 Nov —  Senator Marco Rubio’s Staff Mobile Office Hours at the VMC  1300-1500, specifically for Veterans and their families.    

 

DECEMBER 2024

14 Dec — Wreaths Across America Day in many Brevard Locations.  Cape Canaveral National Cemetery 1000-1200 with details on all WAA events in October. 

14 Dec — JROTC District Invitational Air Rifle Meet at Palm Bay HS 0800-1200.  Support dozens of cadets from 10 or more High Schools compete at the indoor range for marksmanship team honors. 2

14 Dec —  Second Annual Merritt Island Community and Gold Star Family Tribute Christmas Tree Illumination and Holiday Party.   VMC Park 1500- 2000.  More details in August.  

15 Dec —  Wreaths Across America at Pinecrest Cemetery/Brevard County Honors Veterans   1400 – 1600, 815 Clearlake Road, Cocoa .  Honors also Medal of Honor Recipient Emory Bennett, and all deceased veterans  and Gold Star Families of veterans as well as First responders .  Rolling Thunder FL-1 Chapter will escort the wreaths from VMC with KSU at 1300.  Contact Dorothy Walsh for more information through the VMC.  

 

2025

11 Jan —  Second Annual Stop the Traffic 5K Fundraiser, VMC PARK 0700-1200.  Organized by Edgewood HS students and parents to raise money to bring awareness and action  to help stop human trafficking, a growing problem even in America.  More details in November. 

10-11 Jan — Palm Bay JROTC Air Rifle Commanders Cup Match,  PM Friday; 0800-1200 Saturday at Palm Bay Jr/Sr HS. 

01 Feb —  County wide JROTC Air Rifle Run and Shoot Competition at VMC Memorial Park. 0700-1200.  Hosted by Satellite HS JROTC.

02 Feb —  Annual Ceremony to Commemorate the Immortal Four Chaplains of WWII.  VMC Plaza 1400-1500.  Marine Corps League and VMC Sponsors and Presenters.  

15 Feb —  Annual Commemoration of the WWII Bataan Death March at VMC Park 0700-1100.  Air Force and Space Force JROTC units only come together for a long ruck March to remember this tragic chapter in American military history and reflect on the sacrifice of our prisoners of war.    

22 Feb  — JROTC District Drill Meet at VMC Park 0700-1200.  See many teams compete in Color Guard, Squad and Platoon drills. 

22 Feb —  USAF JROTC State wide Drill meet for Air/Space Force programs at Melbourne HS 0800-1300.   

08 Mar —  JROTC District Drill Meet with hundreds of cadets in competition in five events.  VMC Park 0700-1200.

15 Mar — Annual Last Naval Battle of the Revolutionary War Celebration at VMC Plaza.  Sponsored and staged by the Brevard Sons of the American Revolution with assistance from VMC and MOAACC Good Deeds Foundation.  Details in December 2024. 

29 March —  JROTC District Championship Drill Meet at VMC Park 0700-1300.  State Championship Qualifier.
